1) I have eaten enough donuts in the last two hours to feel like a slug that is about to implode. My advisor brought donuts for lab meeting today, during which we talked about the application process to graduate school. I found it to be awfully awkward in many parts because I had made so many mistakes when I applied to work in Mike's lab. Ah well, obviously he accepted me and I am succeeding so there you have it.
2) I am currently tutoring my advisors' daughter in Deutsch, the best language ever. Not only is she extremely intelligent and capable of learning languages at an amazing speed, but it is so much fun for me to review German and to talk about German culture. Speaking of German culture, in looking for books for my student to use a study guide I found this gem that highlights German need for being highly accurate. I swear that this is the actual title as listed on the Miami University library site:
A double grammar for Germans to learn English, and for English-men to learn the German-tongue wherein all Latine words, belonging to the grammar, are translated both into the German and English tongue : treating besides of the derivation of the English tongue, with all grammatical rules : and dialogues, treating of all necessary matters that daily may be spoken of : and, especially what is to be seen for a stranger, at Versailles in France and England, with a compendium of the estate of the German empire by Heinrich Offelen
Can you believe that?
Now back to nursing my sugar high and soon to come hangover.
