So today is the second day of my twenty-sixth year.
*sniffs*
Yep, that new car smell's definitely gone.
Somehow, when I was growing up, I thought getting older would be...oh, I don't know...cooler. I mean, yeah, I can drive. I can vote. I can get blitzed on some really good apple martinis and not get in trouble unless I drive.
But getting older's just kind of...ehh.
I was thinking that I might change the way I say how old I am, just to spice things up a little. You know, instead of saying, "I'm twenty-six," I'd say, "I'm over a quarter of a century old." I dunno. Sounds a little more regal.
If I could get it down in that overblown pompous kind of British accent, I'd do it.
So my birthday was yesterday, but
Xander took me out Saturday night to celebrate. He said he wanted to be the very first person to wish me happy birthday, at midnight.
So we went out to dinner. I had kind of been itching to see Baby Geniuses 2, because something like that just has to be laughably bad...kind of like the original, I'm sure. But I wasn't going to be mean to Xander, so I suggested we go see Hero. I thought, it's got kung-fu. It's got Jet Li. How bad could it be?
Delightfully bad, actually. How can you be bored in a movie like that? I think Xander fell asleep at one point. During a fight scene. I haven't seen a movie that overhyped since Bubba Ho-Tep.
But Xander's one of the sweetest guys I've ever gone out with. I can't recall anyone, even some of my good friends who've seen me through some truly rough spots, ever making it through as many of my disasterpieces as he has, and he's done it without complaining. Much. He just...gets me.
So by the time we got back to his place, it was just before midnight. He wished me happy birthday, just as he said he would, then he gave me my birthday presents.
The first season of Challenge of the Super Friends and
Spider-Man: The '67 Collection.
*SQUEE!*
I loved those cartoons as a kid, and as an adult, they're just...well...they're fun because they just don't hold up well. Especially the Spider-Man cartoons. They're just so trippy.
I think we both fell asleep watching them, after I insisted we give some Super Friends a spin. But I'm sure they will be half-hours of fun and excitement.
That was a pounceworthy present... *ahem* =D
