Showdown time. -_-v

The road is long and it winds
And we still have far to go
But gods, they say love is blind
And so we know
That we can journey on
That we can both be strong today

Fear not the dark of the night
The stars see you on your way
And I will stay by your side
Until that day
When our hearts align
And we will find our ties

Things have gotten a little calmer since I last posted, and finally Mweeble is back in one piece again. The camera situation has been resolved (turns out? The POWERBOARD was fried, which caused the batteries to drain, which caused the shutter to jam), and I have a second-hand Nikon with a kickass 28-70 mm lens. It has since been dubbed Hikari, for reasons to be elaborated upon later in this post.

Starlites exhibition started off last week at the gallery, which sparked the great OMGODOOOOOOMMMM*kadish* wangst. Saturday looked a little nicer, though, as hey, guess what? MM051-1's T.Y.P.O.G.R.A.P.H.Y. CDs all got put up on the wall by the entrance. Mine are on top. The ones completely out of order. -_- Still, one's inner attention whore isn't TOO fussy nowadays. Tuesday last saw a talk by Tatsun, which was useful to some degree but also saw Tatsun saying, with a completely straight face, that we girls should be avoiding snatch thieves lest we end up in the hospital as 'vegetarians'.

I can't make this stuff up.

There was a branding talk on Friday by...wossisname, Kenneth Lam? Apparently the dude used to work with OMG Ogilvy, and he had plenty of useful things to say about the importance of a concept behind your art, and how to implement it, and 360-degree brand stewardship. All incredibly, incredibly useful, but YE GAWDS HE WAS SO CHEONG HEI. The talk dragged on through two venues and 1.5 extra hours. At the end, we were grouped up and made to do presentations. Apparently, I scared Lam-sensei with my bitterness. Seriously? I didn't notice. OoO; But OTOH when the group with Da Spency and Class Genius hijacks ALL your pens and all but one of your sheets of paper, what is there left to be done but to awaken your challenge-damashii, and show that it's not THAT easy to take the Mweeble and her comrades down. Besides, c'mon, everyone likes mahjong paper ponchos. Right? RIGHT! *smothers reader with challenge-damashii*

Photography went quite well, all things considered. Sorry, tanlammy, the pictures with you in them didn't turn out ^^; I ended up showing Adam a greasy fish sandwich and a cup of Pepsi. I got 10 over 10, but don't let him know I WASN'T focusing on ye Pepsi cup...^^; I seem to do pretty well in this class, so I was altogether chuffed for the rest of the day. And I foresee nature photography in the next two weeks--which I LUFF. :D And we start marker rendering next week, which I'm...kinda looking forward to...

Speaking of things to luff - ZOMGOD! After all the months of waiting, the sworn vows to give up on the series and the desperate Bittorenting of files with no seeders, it is official. Make a note of this. *clears throat*

I have a full, raw/subbed, 37-episode run of Ultraman Nexus.

*punches the air with gleeful triumph* Yeah. So, I must be the last SE Asian fan to actually see the whole series, but this is going to be spoilery for the end anyway. So I finally got to see the much-vaunted cameo appearances of Mizuhara Sara, and the ZOMGODdiscovery of The Truth by the Night Raiders, who are kickass as a whole, and Matsunaga being a turd, and the Illustrator collapsing over his console for no apparent reason, and evil!Ishibori. Finally, I get to see Ren's end -- well, at least he didn't die outright. But you should have seen me screaming at both him and Mizuo. Those two need to kiss, hug, get married and have 2.4 kids. It took sooo long and soooo much just to get Ren to hug Mizuo. And Nagi said some really cool stuff. You know, for Nagi. That whole part about the difference between not fearing death and thinking it's OK to die was very good. Shihan approves muchly. And Komon grows a little more spine, and Nagi screws up royally (to put things lightly), and finally, yes, finally, Noa appears. And is shiny beyond all comparison. And proceeds to smash any notion of duality as he beats 1 000 000 CMYK shades of shit out of Dark Zagi. I'm just going to put that down to the fact that Junis Red (yay!) and Junis Blue softened him up with some beam attacks. Zagi is kinda cool anyway. He doesn't have a battle cry - he has a battle roar. And it's smexy in a very animal kind of way, although Noa's battle cry ain't half bad either. In any case, one can see where Sunagimo got her inspiration for that fangy!Zagi pic she had up at one point.

I'm the very slightest bit miffed, though, with the treatment of some of the female characters. And a bit of the English. The Children of Prometheus actually signed an e-mail with 'Children of Promete'. @_@ And somehow nobody bothered to even mention or *ponder* the fact that is was Sara who made the delivery of Raphael to Japan even possible. Just a tiny bit of credit here, people? And Nagi!Nexus raging against Ishibori was just painful to watch, but somehow it should be an otaku's dream come true - sex change, bondage and tentacle rape all in the space of about 5 minutes. I was kinda watching that whole scene with my head in my hands, groaning. What a waste of a Dunamist. And perhaps it's time to watch an ep or two from the Himeya and Senjyu arcs once more - because I don't quite remember Nexus' battle cry changing with the Dunamist, but there it was, Nexus screaming a very Nagi scream.

Some things don't seem to change even when you're 50 metres tall--Komon!Nexus went out there and his first move was to get pwned by Zagi. PWNED, I tell you. XD

All in all...it was satisfying to finally be able to close this particular chapter of my fandom. One still thinks any self-respecting Ultraman fan should make the best effort possible to watch Nexus. Just because it's cool. And if anyone tells you it's like the DS9 of the fandom (you out there, yes, talking 'bout you) - don't listen. It's cool, Mweeble says so, and if you disagree she'll unleash Branding Stewardship no jutsu on you. ;)

Gotta start working on all those backed-up projects if I want to survive the rest of this term.

P.S. - MM051-1, girls in particular:
Trust me on this one - you won't DIE if you take one class in a lab without the aircons. Last week I was dog-sick - this week I am in long sleeves. And I'm still hearing people wailing about how it's so hooooooooooot and how we're going to meeeeeeeeeeeeelt. I recall the class genius threatening litigation. =_= And then, when the aircons are turned on? Y'all are whining that it's too cooooooooold.
GAH! @___@

(ETA - I never did elaborate why I called my camera Hikari, did I? Blame docwebster! He's the one who got me all moe-ed up and sent my screencaps of the slashilicious UM Moebius#10, complete with angsty!Tsurugi.

OK, so I asked for it, and I'm downloading it now, but...DAYYAMN! It was good! And that's just judging blind from screencaps!)
