Term is Officially Over (TM)! I just have to go back on Monday to discuss something about YCLMS, and then for the rest of the hols I can do what I please. Muaha! :D So, time for the news updates.

This is sisu and me. :D

Sis, as you guys might have known, came and went. Fiance came with her. He's...well, old and fat and going bald as long as long as he makes her happy. But I swear that if that little bit of snark I saw is how he treats MY sisu when she's away from home ground? May karma bitchslap you like she has never bitchslapped before, o bakal abang ipar.

Every time a man makes sisu cry an angel sheds its wings and uses them to kill small kittens. Thus, just DON'T.

Sisu and BAI got me nice bday pressies, though. Pair of jeans (have finally learned how to wear them without nipping some sensitive bits in the process), a small folio bag (white - must get round to decorating it somehow soon), and...omg...the first volume of the Dark Horse UM Tiga manhwa! *worship worship* The4 art is very pritty, yes, but dear god...FOUR chapters just to deal with a little biddy bit of flashback and the whole first episode? Dude, does the standard five-chapter arc mean nothing to you? O_o But the art was pritty. That was it.

BAI also left behind a PSP. With four discs. Only thing is, the battery appears to be flat - and have I ever struck you all as a gamer?! ^^;

On a work note...I'm basically fed up to the motherloving gills with Print Production. Not so fed up of Tay, but fed up with my tutor Agnes! WRAUGGHHH! I wanna cut her into bite-size pieces and fry it all and serve to Dark Zagi!!!

I better tell you what happened.

The final project for P3? Shelf talker. And Tay said we could do any product we desired as long as it fit on a shelf. What more-lah? I did Ultra Ninja Manual, but got shot down because the thumbs looked two pasar-malamish. Never mind that, go home and spend a sleepless night redesigning three more thumbs with simple pictures, background graphic elements, pictures verbatim (imageatim?) from the manga covers so you can either clip or trace...I even shifted focus from Kotobuki to Flash, which was still in print. And I did three thumbs for Cadbury, just in case...

Just in case happened. She didn't even bother to look at the UNM thumbs. Bang, bang, bang. I'm surprised there was no blood on the floor when I was done. And for research? 2/6. TWO PER FOOKING SIX. ._.+ Yeah, thanks a lot.

So, I got settled down to doing a Cadbury shelf-talker, heck, I even enjoyed it and I incorporated a suggestion from Agnes - use a drop shadow for my nummy naked piece of manmeat chocolate bar. So, K, I did that - but it's a die cut, so I just cut the chocolate bar out in the mockup and folded. It looked lovely, if I say so myself.

Then Tay calls me up. "What is this drop shadow doing here? You're cutting it out? Minus 3 marks!"

"What?! But it was Agnes' idea...All right. Sorry."

I really don't like two-lecturer classes where the tutor and lecturer cannot seem to network. Listen up, fat boy, one, it was Agnes' raja jauh suggestion, not mine. Suggestion to improve the design no less, ha ha. Two, have you ever seen a shadow cast 90 degrees perpendicular to the ground?! Somewhere in your universe, maybe, not mine. And before class ends the man has the audacity to remind us not to forsake our design sense for saleability.

...I can't forsake it, sensei. I think you broke it when you took it in the butt. >_> And oh god, I still want to turn Agnes into stirfry.

On a more positive note: something similar happened with typo, but that turned out all right. Meet my lecturer Sharon. She likes pushing her ideas onto you for you to use in your work - well, she may phrase it differently, but that's how I see it. They're not suggestions to improve your artwork - they're ideas your brain never considered in the first place, things you never see yourself doing because they're just not your style. Yeah, sensei, you call it stubbornness, I say integrity of design. Like I wrote down in my sketchbook (I started a new sketchbook! ^^v), it's like Tiga using the Eye Slugger. Never mind that he's physically incapable of it and this isn't that goondu manga with the wibbly Bemstar, but the Slugger? It's Seven. It's UltraSeven through and through. Besides, on the off chance it Gets Somewhere, which would YOu rather say to a satisfied viewer? "I'm glad you like the idea, I thought about it for a long time" or "I'm glad you like the idea, it was my lecturer's."

So. I finally got Sharon to agree to something I cooked up, and I executed it with some suggestions. Helluva lot of problems - I printed an extra copy with an extraneous layer, the string for the 'crossbar' broke and the strings on the dangly letters also snapped several times...it came in late, but it went in anyway. And, despite the messiness, it got a whopping 8.5 marks

Sharon wrote on the envelope 'good concept and good effort'. She's keeping the damn thing.

Who cares if she really meant what she said? It got marked high and it came through, and it was, yes, MY Eye Slugger. :)

Visuals went OK (OMG 4 PEOPLE AND A TEA SET FOR EXAM...ZL, want to kill us issit?). I think ID and TBM are going to pwn me, though. Neither presentation went too well, but...well, I guess I do kinda like the lecturers, and they're nice and they give good suggestions. Apparently we may see both next term, too - Joanne does digital typo, Suweii does Online Media. Too bad nice sweet Pauline is leaving next term. Byebye tutor-sama. :( Speaking of nice and sweet...or not...Marion never did wear that cheongsam. *rue* And after all that faffing around about how Sepet was going to come out for the exam...it never did. I suddenly had to crap about what I remembered about mak yong and reformasi...Good thing I studied the DEB properly, so that question was all right. I'm a little ashamed to admit I found myself wondering how 10 marks gets broken up between three points, though. Our last tutorial was a free topic, but I never got to flog my dead horse - they talked about sex instead. Or rather, in general fashion we STARTED with sex, and somehow ended up discussing the ethics of selling your baby off. Marion has basically invited us over to her house any time, so perhaps I may take her up on the offer. Someday. Just...keep the liquor in the cabinet, sensei, unless you're going to serve French coffee. :D *loves*

Tomorrow, I am going to CEDKO, which is Malaysia's first cartoonist's conference. I thought what the hey, Lat and Reggie Lee are going to be there, so why not go there, rub shoulders, have fun? Simple enough, right? ^_^ Not when you subject it to the Ultimate Mweeble.

I took a look at the guest list the other day and lost it completely. A whole bunch of 'bigshots' are coming: Silver-ant Labs, which I believe was founded by a TOA alumni and is in charge of that ruddy Saladin animation we're planning, Seepeppermint.com (I checked out the site, it looks good), Max Loh (bleargh!) Kaleon (...half a bleargh)...cue the Mweeble's Sensible Lobe kicking in, screaming that she has no portfolio to show and how is she going to convince them all to look out for her in two years time when she's so very teh mediocre at the moment. 24 hours later, she's finally calmed down enough to decide she'll do live sketches of Ultras (and portraits...if anyone requests 'em) and sell a teeny little amount of stickers. That seemed to satisfy my huffy little bunch of neurons, and now I'm just the slightest bit less nervous about everything. :)

I think I've been driving Cedric Gan crazy with my kooky questions. Bless him. Although I still wonder - when I asked if I could sell UM drawings at CEDKO, who the HELL was that howling with laughter in the background? *twitch*
