When I was very young, Ultraman was my constant companion. It was always nice to hold on his arm and talk of silly things. He had a bit of a multiple personality thing going on, sometimes serious, sometimes childish and stubborn. He was so much older, but in a way, we were both children, back then. Eventually, we met up less and less, and so we drifted apart. I forgot all about him, attracted instead to the new kid on the block, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He was strong. He was sassy. He made me laugh...not to mention he was pretty cute. Still is, I think. But then, as time went on and he changed his name a few times, I began to hear rumours - how he wasn't all he seemed, how it was all just a play. And it was, really, only I didn't find out until much later. Then one day on vacation, I bumped into Ultraman: Super Fighter Legend. It was just a brief encounter, catching up and telling stories. Only some months later, when I fell into his arms at a low point in my life, did I finally fall smack into love.

Oh, right, MMPR. The rumours did continue. One day Power Rangers in Space sat me down and told me the truth, straight. I left immediately. I do not hate him all that much, but a wound is a wound. We have never spoken since. I hear his other girlfriends are quite aggressive. The truth that made me leave does not appear to bother them. I am only glad what turned MMPR did not touch a few of his brothers, and my old friends, Flashman, Maskman and Jetman.

But I still had Ultraman. We were pretty tight for some time, but he dropped into the background again when I reached junior high. Deru-senpai introduced me to this bloke called Gensoumaden Saiyuuki. He was...weird. Sharp, cynical, all angles--yet, somehow, I felt a kinship with him. He hung around for a few years, filling in some gaps that Ultraman couldn't and transferring a bit of his worldly wiles to me. He shaped a good bit of what I am today. Two years ago, we reached the climax of our relationship, lost in fanworks and text. And Ultraman showed up again. In quite a gentleman-like manner, Saiyuuki retreated with a cheery farewell. We're still friends, although definitely not as close as we used to be.

Now Ultraman is my only steady. :D Sure, there was that brief little stint into Pocket Monsters. I still talk to him once in a long while. I lost touch with his sibling Digital Monsters, because as time went on he changed more and more -- for the worse. Too complex an individual for my tastes. Another senior introduced me to Petshop of Horrors and Kimi wa Petto, But my interest in them is a little more academic. They could never reach the heights I have climbed with Ultraman, mood swings and all. He still has that multiple personality thing, and there's a little confusion about who his parents REALLY are, but I have come to take the bitter with the sweet, the classic with the revolutionary.

I think we'll be together for a long time. And I'm tagging chibicelchan and anyone else who wants to give this a go.
