Back in the Habit

Today, Jill (nrwgian_wouldbe/ jeghedderjill) and I learned some Welsh by going through the Rosetta Stone program! I can't believe that people are actually able to learn & speak that language. Jill, who studied & lived in Iceland for a time, said it is actually rather similar to Icelandic. I always love learning about languages and their "hidden" connections to each other.

I was going to just leave another entry complaining about how boring my life is, but that goes against my (hypocritical) maxim that "If you're bored, then you're boring." Nowadays the boring-ness is mainly the result of my job, which is analyzing financial accounts for bank clients and then calling people who either yell at me or accuse me of "working for Obama." Yeah, like Obama gives a shit if you spend $29.99 at the local bait & tackle shop.

I take my GRE's in a few weeks...any advice? I'm expecting the worst, but hoping for the best. I am obsessed with analysis & research, so I'm going to apply for the Criminalistics/Criminology program here. This is actually something I've always been ashamed to admit, but it's been a longtime obsession of mine. I love analyzing crime from a social sciences perspective...my perfect job would be that of a desk cop, where you do all the unglamorous & unseen grunt work of researching and going through files and files trying to find that one elusive piece of information. I have no desire to be in an authoritative or public role. Unless I were a stand-up comedian. That's my REAL perfect job.

Speaking of stand-up comedians, I can't believe it took so long for me to find out that Greg Giraldo had died. I'd been following him since I first saw him on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn back in 2002 and always thought he was vastly underrated. You'd expect a guy like Mitch Hedberg to OD on drugs, but Greg Giraldo swallowing a bunch of pills came straight out of left field.

One of these days, I will leave some comments for you. Contrary to what it might look like, I actually sign on Livejournal quite frequently and read about your lives...I am just too lazy/uncreative to leave comments most of the time! I always enjoy hearing what you have to say!

Your friend,
Schyler H, former MP
