feeling a bit better

Sep 15, 2004 20:05

I had a great talk with the amazing Adam Spry yesterday evening, in which we found that God hath given us mightily similar minds. I guess I feel better to know someone who almost definitely knows how I feel in regards to interacting with the world. End result, I feel a bit better, but now I have so much more to think about. Despite how much I ( Read more... )

Well if you are ever thinking of going to counseling you may as well try it at PLU, since it is free. Honestly it is on par with any other psychologist that I have seen. I have chosen to stop going for my own reasons but it is on terms that I feel like if I wanted to I could go back. Out of curiosity what has been the cause of your previous negative reaction?

well, I suppose it's always been a fear coupled with a desire to "do it myself."

Also, I was involved in a counseling program in my first elementary school that was designed to help those of us who didn't really have friends develop friend-making skills. It was a huge load of crap. Basically we were all smart, introverted kids who didn't care about making friends, we all basically seemed to figure that friends would happen if necessary without active pursuit, which is how my relationship is with every friend I've ever had. I just let friends happen rather than spend time/energy making them. We also pretty much hated all the other kids too because they were pretty stupid. It was a program with good intentions, but bad realization and it kinda treated us as though our differences in social interaction were flaws.

So, I'm jaded, afraid, and driven to deal with emotions on my own. My cynicism about all medical profession also play into it.

I totally understand I have had myself, close friends and mostly my mother screwed over by medical professionals especially in the area of psychology. If you keep your wits about you though it is much harder to get screwed over. I picked up a book for 25 cents titled "Do-It yourself psychotherapy" if you want to look at it. It is for people who think that they can do it themselves or are at least willing to try. I haven't actually looked too deeply into it but if you want to borrow it you may. Just so you know my experience with PLU counselling has been largely positive and its free for the trying also ( ... )

also, I realized another of my fears of counseling is discovering that there is actually something wrong with me that is beyond my control because I refuse to medicate for psychological issues.
