Jesus Christ

I'm pretty convinced that if you studied the teachings of Jesus Christ by themselves, your understanding of him would be completely different from what we now call Christianity. Of course, Christians will tell you that his message isn't complete without the context of the rest of the Bible. I'm suspicious of that argument. I wish I could read ancient Greek and Hebrew and decide for myself.

My biggest gripe with Christianity is that it's a circular logic. There are two verses in the Bible which, taken together, close the door on any kind of intellectual debate. You cannot argue a point based on anything outside the Bible, because you are to "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5); and you cannot point out the many contradictions within the Bible or use Scripture to argue against church doctrine, because "even the Devil may quote Scripture for his purposes" (Matthew 4:1-11).
