Why do so many bands do songs like this?
========================================
Brand New - Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis
-------------------------------------
I will lie awake, and lie for fun and fake
The way I hold you, let you fall for every
Empty word I say
==========================================
Death Cab For Cutie - Tiny Vessels
----------------------------------
But it was vile, and it was cheap
And you are beautiful
But you don't mean a thing to me
=================================
Nada Surf - Inside of Love
--------------------------
I wanna know what it's like on the inside of love
I'm standing at the gates, I see the beauty above
I wanna know what it's like on the inside of love
I can't find my way in, I try again and again
=================================================
I was thinking today about music (isn't that a suprise.) And realized all these supposed "Emo" bands all have a very typical, and quite expected "type" of "poor me" song(s). OK, sure, some people will say "Emo" rock is all about poor me. I tend to dissagree with that statement, though. It's about emotion, and the wanna-be emo/indie idiots are the ones who turn it all into poor me music.
Besides, isn't "poor me" the staple of Mope Rock?
Music's always been, and always will be, important in my life. Any decisions I make will usually be decided based on a musical standpoint. (IE: Where should I work? [Wal-Mart] Can I listen to music there? [Yes].)
Last night was the first time in a long time I worked an entire shift and sang less than four songs. I sang three songs last night at work - one right when I started work, and two an hour after that. No more. I'm usually singing for about 6 hours of my worknight. That's alot of songs.
What did I sing? Oh yes. "Saw Red" By Sublime, "Kiss Off" and "Add It Up" by The Violent Femmes. That was it, and I haven't really touched my guitar in a week, except for about an hour yesterday.
I guess I just got a lot more on my mind than I used to.
"So we end this way I don't recall how we got started
So we end this way, no trace of us in spring
And all in all I guess it's more than better
if you just can't feel a fuckin' thing. Fall asleep
And I wanted you to know it was you that we were thinkin' of
As we quietly died in the snow
A place we'll never leave, A place we never wanna call home
A place we'll call the final resting place in pieces."
-The Alkaline Trio
