Things I could do without

I've just about had it up to 'here' with pro athletes talking about religion and/or politics. It's bad enough quite a few NHL players I follow constantly tweet "inspirational" religious quotes or messages, but yapping about politics is totally beyond the pale. Is NOTHING personal anymore? I suppose not.

The religious shit annoys me not because I don't believe, (I know many people for whom faith is important and I get that even if I don't share their beliefs) but because athletes seem to credit god for the fact that they are rich and successful. As if ALL I HAVE TO DO is pray and have faith and - PRESTO! - I'll be rolling in money! JUST LIKE THEY ARE. Please. I seem to remember that Jesus didn't care about money, but maybe it's just me.

It annoys me that they are so smug in their belief that they are "blessed" with wealth and fame because god put out his hand and touched them. No, you are "blessed" because you can skate and push a puck around exceptionally well and in our society, these skills are rewarded with a pro contract and the money that comes with it. If anything, these assholes should be thanking the FANS for "blessing" them for paying to see them play.

I guess my problem isn't so much with religion, but how it's misused. Also, I hate that "just wish it and your dreams will come true" bullshit even if it's not religious - that's childish thinking.

And politics...dear god, don't get me started. Is nothing personal anymore? I didn't care what Tim Thomas thought about anything outside of hockey until he started forcing the issue. He can think whatever he wants, but I'd really rather not know about it. It is irrelevant to the game and irrelevant to me as a fan. But he persists. WHY?

Chick-Fil-A is fucking delicious, by the way. I could GIVE A SHIT what they believe, I could eat their nuggets and waffle fries until I put myself in a coma. I eat there maybe 2-3 times a year because I only allow myself fast food on rare occasions, so they don't get much money from me anyway. Life is too fucking short for me to give up such a rare and simple pleasure, so I won't. I'm not interested in wearing sackcloth and ashes: my 'paradise' is here on Earth and I intend to make the most of it.

Social media can be an enlightening and amusing forum for a sports fan, but sometimes it can be annoying as shit. I shouldn't be on here yelling about chicken, for god's sake, but thanks to one guy that's exactly what I'm doing. Ridiculous.

I'm going to reserve my conscience for shit that actually matters: how I treat my fellow human beings, for example. I'll accept any kind of weirdness you want me to. We all have some. And if you preach to me I might call you out, but I'll be fair and respectful. I think that matters more than where I choose to eat.
