I've got so many projects and possibilities floating around in the ether right now: it's been a while since that's happened and it's both exciting and nerve-wracking.
We had dinner w/ the in-laws to discuss Europe and Sky sort of got the ball rolling by blurting out "Amy wants to see the Bayeux Tapestry!" It's on my Things To Do Before I Die list and all, but it wasn't my intention to plan the whole trip around my fetish for the Plantagenets and the early middle ages. My MIL actually loved the idea and pulled out a France guidebook and told me to look up similar points of interest. I came up with Chateau Gaillard (Castle built by Richard the Lionheart) which is also in Normandy and the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud (Where Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine are entombed and covered w/ beautifully carved and painted effigies) in the Loire Valley. I love cities but I think in France I'd rather spend more time in small towns and in the countryside: that's where most of the good historical stuff is anyway. My MIL pretty much took it for granted that we would arrive in France by ferry from England, so I'm thinking London is still on the table - I'll get my big city fix there for sure.
It's looking like we're going for a 8-day trip divided equally between England and France at this point. As long as I can squeeze in Liverpool I should be able to accomplish all the 'must-dos' on my list. There is an 11-hour side trip that leaves from London and goes to Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury Cathedral (Where the Magna Carta is kept) which will scratch my historical itch nicely. I don't want/need to see Buckingham Palace, the Tower Clock, Madame Tussaud's and all that tourist-y crap. (Maybe the Tower of London or a Jack the Ripper walking tour since I love creepy stuff, but that's it.) I also want to make sure Sky can see a football game if he wants to - Aston Villa is his favorite team, but he's not picky.
I have officially christened this journey "The Magical Underpants Tour" (We'll see London, we'll see France...get it?) and it may be the death of me, but if worse comes to worse it's not a bad way to go.
Also, I have another project in the works...
I had every intention of starting a hockey blog, but it seems like every angle and niche has been filled in that department. I don't feel like I can bring anything new/exciting/different to the table. However, one of my fanfics I wrote last year has given me the framework for a novel and I think I'm going to flesh that out. I'm doing research now so it's in the very early stages, but I think I may have something. I'll have to change a lot and expand on it quite a bit, but I think it can still retain the original vibe I was going for when I wrote it as a short story. We'll see...
And Macca awaits on wednesday: in the Pens' brand-new Arena!
I hope my Karma holds out for a while. It's been such a good, positive week and I want to keep it that way.
