Well, a busy week. Its the end of summer which is for some not such a positive prospect. For me it means the harvest and production of stores for the winter.
That, in theory means that we put away enough to see us in this household through till spring, with possibly a bit to spare. Those of you who have been here know that Peter grows stuff in industrial size amounts, so that means I have to do the same.
This week, so far I have made 14 jars or redcurrant jelly, from our own redcurrants, made 13 jars of raspberry and redcurrant jelly (even nicer) from picked raspberries, made 16 jars of chutney from our own stuff, have a double batch of tomato soup to freeze tomorrow, and have 13lb of blackberries to turn into bramble jelly (yes Paul, you can. I still have more chutney to do and also the pickled onions. I may even do some apple jelly from the windfalls, oh and I have to freeze a whole load of apples to see us through.
We still have a new batch of mangetouts just coming ready and the beans are still going. We also have a pear tree that has huge pears on, they will be ready to pick in a week or so and will store till November or possibly longer. This year the garden has done us proud after a lousy start. Thanks will be given.
I love this season.
