We got home and found that all (I say all, that's only 6 plants ;) of the climbing French beans have reached the tops of their poles! Not sure what to do now lol.
Peter recommends pinching them out to encourage them to shoot from lower down, i.e. pinch out the growing point. But you can just leave it and it will wave gently in the breeze. We are using bamboo poles for our beans, home grown in a grden Pete works in. They are much longer than the ones you get in the garden centres, at least 14 foot. Pete wanted to see if he could get a bean growing all the way to the top. He offered to get me a step ladder to pick from. I declined.
Thank Pete for the advice - yeah, my poles are only 6 foot and the high winds and downpours are doing their best to wreck everything but the plants are hanging in there, bless them!
