The wonderful world of IKEA

I took myself out to Rhodes yesterday on a mission to get the ergonomic pillow I've been wanting for nearly a year now. It's funny how IKEA is like some kind of postmodern adults fairyland, the place was chockers. I started at the cafe with those delightful meatballs (although they were served with chips rather than mash which was a disappointment) before embarking upon the path of temptation. As I set out, a Kraftwerk tune was playing, this made me giggle.

Yes, there were many wonderful things to be seen. The BILLY bookshelves which I've been eyeing off now come in a lovely burgundy colour. They didn't have the ergonomic pillows upstairs in the bedding section, but a staff member assured me that I would find them downstairs.

I did find them downstairs (and promptly flopped down on the nearest bed with the testers to decide which to pick). I also found a very spiffy icecube tray that makes icecubes in the shape of jigsaw puzzle pieces, a set of tiny lights that works on AA batteries, a plastic tray that will fit either of my laptops (to keep them from overheating on the bed).. ah the usual IKEA junk basically. :)

I also checked out the doona covers. I was tempted by a lurid pink and orange number, but ended up taking home a spiffy blue and turquoise set with the awesome name of KAKTUS. It's made from strechy soft t-shirt fabric so it's nice and snuggly!

I also bought some elderflower and lingenberry cordial on my way out. I took the lingenberry one to Soiree last night and managed to leave it there. :(

Soiree was great, Jen and I went to the wrong hall by accident but eventually made it to the right place. I was initially concerned because most of my usual cronies hadn't come, but hey - a chance to make new friends! We ended up sitting next to the musicians from Mordenvale (who were very talented). I chickened out of singing anything solo, but enjoyed listening to all of the performances. I did help play for the dancing and joined in some of the general singing, I also stole borrowed four hats in the course of the evening! japester was brave enough to recite poetry and won the soloist prize for his violin playing! Huzzah!

The food at Soiree was exceptional, that cherry pie was to die for and I also really liked the hazelnut mousse (and wish I'd had a bit more although I was pretty full by that point). Kudos to wenchilada for a great event.

Now I need to go and get ready to meet Julie. We're off to see icansinghigher in her opera this afternoon. It's so nice not to be flying anywhere today. :)
