Stress level THROUGH THE ROOF

*sigh* why did I want this promotion again?

So our company is opening a new store in New York and, since that store isn’t actually finished, their team is training in ours. Today and next Tuesday they will be doing the Front of Store Displays. I am the supervisor in charge of those displays.

At first (and even today until the task actually started) I’m happy about it. Hey, other people to do my work for me is no problem at all. Then it comes time for it to actually happen.

Their GM comes in. This is the first time I have ever actually met this guy, even though his store has been training at ours for the past…oh….month-ish? He proceeds to explain to his workers in detail what needs to be done and why. I know this sounds like a positive thing, but it was ridiculous. “The books have to come off the display because if they are still there then there won’t be room for new books.” It was like watching a PBS program.

Then he starts giving me orders. Now, I’m not a primadonna or anything, but last I checked this was supposed to be their job today. I shrug it off at first and start doing my work. When I finish my assigned tasks, I check out the others progress.

All. Done. Wrong.

Not only are the displays done wrong, but they were done wrong using too many books. And so they were complaining that we didn’t have enough books to cover other displays they needed to do. (granted, we were short on books. But it wouldn't have been nearly as big a problem had they done things properly.)

Disgruntled, I spot Scott talking to their GM. Their GM is explaining to Scott why he is doing things the way he’s doing and why Scott should adopt his system.

Scott smiles and nods, then both of us go upstars to the office where we sat and stewed until they were finished. We then went behind them and fixed the displays.

I’m thinking of calling in sick next Tuesday.
