Last night I went to a focus group. What that basically means is that I and about a dozen other men from 18 - 40 sat through the first two episodes of a television show that hasn’t premiered yet and then told them our opinions of it. My show (and I think I’m allowed to say this because I didn’t sign an NDA or anything) was called “What About Brian”.
http://abc.go.com/primetime/schedule/2005-06/whataboutbrian.html The show was so-so. David Arquette was in it with quite a few hilarious one-liners. I doubt I’d actively seek it out to watch, but having seen the first two episodes I would probably stay and watch it if I came across it while channel surfing. That’s essentially what I told them.
Anyway, all that is just a little background information for the real question I want to pose here: Are all men of middle eastern descent obsessed with sex?
No, really. The focus group was pretty much divided up evenly among the age/race spectrum. We had two younger guys (this is the group I was in), two black guys, two older white guys, two Hispanics, two middle easterners, etc. It was like Noah’s Ark only with the purpose of creating quality television programming instead of preventing people from being eaten by whales or nailing Jesus to the cross or whatever that story is about.
Well, any time a question to the effect of “What did you most like about this show?” or “What would you add to the show to make it better?” both of the middle eastern guys would offer up some variation of “tits”.
Not joking at all. Both of them enjoyed that the show had numerous attractive women in it, but they would enjoy it more if it had more. With more exposed breasts. Every. Single. Time. They. Were. Asked.
Now if it were just one of them, then I’d shrug him off as being a mild pervert. But both of them? What are the odds that the two perverts in the group would both be middle eastern?
So that’s my question: Are all middle eastern men utter pervs? If the answer is yes, then why? Is it an outlash against a generally more conservative culture? Overcompensation of decadence in an attempt to seem more American? Or am I just reading too much into it?
