Nashville is so awesome, blah, blah, blah

Today is my second full day in Tennessee, and contrary to what one may think, I don't really have anything to do until I pick up my sister from school at 3PM. No problem. I'll just write a long overdue post about my comings and goings, mostly goings though, these last few days. My departure from Jupiter officially began a day before I actually got on the road. That Monday, I woke up at a most unholy hour (7 AM for all the detail freaks) to insure my car a spot at the beginning of the line at the ole garage. And yet in spite of all my initiative, by the time closing time came around, the mechanic had still not even so much as looked at my car. So there I was at 6 PM still in Jupiter and more than a little peeved at the turn of events deviating so wildly from my original plan of having my car checked over and ready for the road by noon. As it turns out though, having to wait that extra day may have saved me a lot of extra money after all, because when the mechanic did finally have a look at my car, he diagnosed a problem with the transmission that could have been very costly to repair if he wasn't as honest and kind and probably a bit guilt-ridden over the previous day's delay to suggest an alternative procedure that wouldn't cost me a thing for him to execute. Basically, what had been happening was that the 4th gear locking mechanism in my transmission had been freezing up and causing my car to stall out after prolonged use. The options were between fixing the mechanism OR disengaging it so that my transmission would no longer lock up in 4th gear, but my fuel efficiency would decrease slightly. Being the poor college student that I am (at HEART at least) I chose the latter. However, I had no idea that he wasn't going to charge me for it when I made the decision. It was when I went to pick up my car, and was taking out my wallet to pay, that the mechanic said that the service was free of charge. So, if anyone ever needs any car-work done, I know a really good place to go to.....if you have a little extra time to spare.

I finally got on the road around 3:30 and stopped in Gainseville to visit my friend and take a rest for the night. The next day it took me 9 hours to drive the remainder of the trip to Nashville, the last 2-3 hours of which were especially unpleasant, because that was when it started to get cold. Really, really cold. In fact, it was definitely the coldest i've ever been in my life. Apparently the heater in my car doesn't work, which doesn't make much sense to me since the heater is the engine and the engine was clearly working. I guess the conductors were messed up or something though. I was probably the first person to ever even try using them. But anyway, I saw one of those bank thermometers read 35 degrees, and that seemed way too warm to me. When I pulled into the driveway outside of my family's apartment it wasn't snowing like my mom had said but it was flurrying hardcore.

The next day, Nina and I took the trip 10 miles south into downtown Nashville. First we went to the most bitchin' CD store ever. It was like if girlpants opened a CD store, this is just what it would be like ill-conceived fashion choices and all. It took a lot of restraint on my part to walk out of there without buying a single thing. Afterwards Nina and I made our ritual pilgrimage to the Parthenon and as you can see

it was a most satisfactory one. Some nice lady offered to take a picture of us together and we gratefully accepted her offer, but the classic shot as usual prevailed to be the lj post choice champion.

Nina and I's next stop was a hip little charming cafe that served exceptionally high-quality, i must say, coffee. Some bum outside tried to get a cigarette from me, and I would have been happy to give him one because he seemed like a nice guy, a bit crazy, but aren't they all? I only had the one I was smoking on me though, so he was out of luck.

It was around 6 PM when we got back to Hendersonville where I spent the remainder of the evening cooking/eating a really tasty deep-dish pizza, interwebbing it, and reading the little prince which carmen gave me before I left. Around 10 PM, Nina's friend Chrissy who had been staying with us, but was sick with an ulcer, hence why she didn't go to Nashville with us that day, made a request for some Chicken Noodle soup. There wasn't any in the house, but that didn't stop Nina and I from making her some. We got in ole Stinky and drove to PUBLIX to pick some up.

So yeah. It's been a busy last couple of days. And it's only getting worse. Tomorrow I'm driving to Pensacola to get all my stuff out of storage and visit some friends and maybe even go to a big punk rock show with Nina. Then I'll start the inevitable search for a job. Nina knows a place where I can get hired tomorrow. The Texas Roadhouse! Ah ha ha. And I might just do it because the idea tickles me so. And I'm sure the money isn't that bad. But I really want to work at Borders, so we'll see how it goes.
