Statement of Intent
In 500 words or less, discusses your reasons for pursuing undergraduate study in the visual arts. Feel free to include any information about yourself, your goals and interests that may not be immediately apparent from the review of your transcripts or portfolio.
SVA offers what I’m looking for in an art schools, the courses are relevant to the career I want to pursue and the school is in an area that I’m somewhat familiar with. The art school in my area offers some classes, but most don’t have what I’m looking for to further myself and pursue my career path. The School of visual art’s variety of classes and the fact that it is in a place where I know I’ll get more exposure to different types of visual art is something I’m desperately looking forward too. I’m positive that attending this school will be a great assistance in improving my artistic ability and homing in on skills I’ll need to pursue a direct career path.
I was born in the Bronx and raised there for twelve years, I’ve been drawing since I was in the sixth grade although my father’s ability to draw and my mother having taking an art class during my last year in new York really had an impact on me. I live in a single parent home in charlotte North Carolina. I’m fond of the area but, it doesn’t have everything I’m looking for at the moment and I’m looking to branch out of the area.
I’m a quiet person; I don’t talk a lot unless I have something to say. I’m mostly very pleasant and try my best to stay on the positive side of things. I Like English and creative writing opportunities, I enjoy trying new things and flourish even more when I’m successful at them, even if it is after a number of tries.
I mostly work with traditional Medias, Pencils, chalk pastels, and inks. I want to learn how to use paints more to my advantage and get a more professional look out of my art one day. I’ve also done some relief prints that I enjoy doing and would love to explore that medium more often. I like working with others and using people to model my drawings after so they look more realistic and not to cartoon like.
My goals are to further my knowledge by taking classes and then pursuing a job in cartooning or illustration. One day I hope to be able to master drawing and visual art and be able to use it to the best of my advantage. My interest lies in writing; I love to write poems and stories. I also like playing cards and occasionally dominos. Eventually I do plan on taking a business course so that when I do graduate I’ll have a stepping stone to be able to market my art work in a productive yet for filling way. I want to be able to get better at visual arts of all types as well as be able to support myself off of it.
