Drabble 'Over' - Ron/Hermione, Draco/Hermione

Feb 09, 2008 21:59

Okay, so I'm not known to be a Dramione shipper because I just cannot see it happening. However, as most of you will know, there's this forum game called 'Duck Duck Goose'. Well, it just so happens that I was goosed today... and well, what can I say, this was what I had been goosed with:

...and I goose you right back mon! How about a 300 or more Drabble where Ron and Hermione break up and Hermione falls desperately in love with Draco

Well, here's the closest thing I could bring myself to write a Dramione... (it's 598 words and rated PG-13 for vage, very mild sexual references and one use of the f-word....)

Over

Ron looked at his watch for probably the 500th time that evening. Still no sign of Hermione. She was late, again. Bloody workaholic, he thought, although straight after, his thoughts brought him to somewhere else. Somewhere he didn’t want to go, but couldn’t help himself anymore.

Lately, Hermione was always at work. And the few times they had found a few spare moments together, she didn’t seem as interested in him anymore. Conversations lacked their usual spark - and Merlin had they had spark before - and even their more intimate moments over the last two months… well, he could count them on one hand and have fingers left over.

Something was definitely wrong, and he was determined to find out what. Did she not love him anymore? His stomach turned at the thought. He loved her just as much, how could she not love him. After all, hadn’t she just told him so this morning?

No, she hadn’t.

He had kissed her goodbye and said, “Love you,” on her way out. She had answered with a small smile and gone without a word. Could it be she had an affair?

Ron rubbed his hands over his face and raked his fingers through his hair. She wouldn’t do that to him, would she? Maybe he should ask Harry to check on her at the Minsitry; find out what she’s doing.

Bloody hell! Since when didn’t he trust his girlfriend of three years anymore? They lived together, they were practically married, weren’t they? Well, without the official certificate, but that was only a formality, wasn’t it? And what if she had genuinly lost interest in him?

The percussions of that thought were too ghastly to even contemplate. He tried his best to think of something else entirely but was interrupted by Hermione flooing into the room.

She straightened up and brushed a bit of soot off her skirt. Ron looked at her without saying a word, taking in her appearance. She looked just like she had this morning. Her prim attire she took to wearing at work; the skirt and matching jacket over a high collard blouse. Still, something didn’t quite match. He didn’t say anything though as he couldn’t quite figure out just what that ‘something’ was.

Later, much later, when he could finally add one more count to their rare encounters, she said the wrong name at the wrong time. He stilled, horrified and praying to every deity in the universe that he had heard wrong. She just couldn’t have said his name.

One look at her, however, confirmed that his ears had not deceived him.

“Hermione?” He asked, weakly, not quite comprehending what this truly meant. He could see the agony in her face, knew it hurt her too, the situation. She, however, didn’t make an excuse but simply disentangled herself from him and began to get dressed.

“I’m sorry Ron,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry.”

One year later

Ron flung The Daily Prophet into the nearest bin. He’d known this was going to happen, yet some small part of his brain tried to ignore it, hopeing against hope it wouldn’t come true. He was surprised at the sting that suddenly attacked his eyes.

Fucking Malfoy.

He stood abruptly, leaving the room and the small announcement in the paper behind:

A happy day indeed for the wizarding wedding of the year. The Daily Prophet is honoured to show the first official photographs of the newly weds, Mrs Hermione Granger-Malfoy and her husband, Mr Draco Malfoy. For full details and more photographs, please turn to page 5.
