One of many issues with season 2 of The Wire

It is most irritating when the sex-related nudity in a well-regarded, critically acclaimed, character-driven TV show is pointedly and noticeably female-only.  Isn't this one of those sticky issues directors really need to be aware of?  Isn't this practice a really, really fast way to undermine the gender philosophy of the show?  What in the world is making it so difficult to flash some man-ass once in a while?  One wonders whether there is simply, stupidly, more pressure for HBO actresses to get naked, or whether HBO actresses are more willing to snip that no-nudity clause out of their contract.  Certainly OZ, one of HBO's most famous dramas, indicates that there are plenty of good, serious actors willing to take it off (in fact, the two shows have many male actors in common).  So what gives?  I can't quite believe that the viewing audience for this show would clamour for tits but be turned off by dangly parts...it doesn't square with the tenor of the HBO audience (or maybe it does; perhaps OZ is a unique example).  I do not understand the dramatic increase of exploitative components to this season, especially as the storyline REALLY demands sensitivity in this area.
