The Passport Thing

Jan 22, 2013 10:26

Seems like a good time to travel. No job, almost no responsibilities, almost no bills. Why not pick up and head to Asia, or at least Mexico? Or, okay, Vancouver. It's right there.

I never got a new passport after I got married. I updated the rest of my ID, but my passport has the old name. Now I'm getting un-married, and planning to change my name again. That could happen anytime between July and the end of the year, and then there's some time getting the documentation lined up... Seems like kind of a pointless time to jump through the hoops and pay the money to get a new passport.

Might do it anyway. Passport Card is interesting halfway option (gets you into Mexico and Canada, as long as you don't fly) but I feel like if I'm going to fork over some money and bureaucracy-time while unemployed and bill-free, I want the freedom to fly to Iceland on a whim.

Not insurmountable, just one of the hiccups of being in legal-status limbo. I'll be thinking about it.
