glad to be a one-car family

Car is going back into the shop, again. Grarg.

Last night someone didn't brake well enough in the rain and slid into Tyler's car at a red light. The bumper is pretty well crunched, the side body is a little bent and the trunk won't close. The boy is okay and that is the important part. The rest is money and annoyance.

I'm frustrated with this whole car business, though. Since we paid the loan off (and got all its scheduled maintenance, like good car-owners) in April, the fuel pump died, the A/C died, and now it's going in to get a new bumper. Knowing the way the insurance-garage works, we're going to be out a car for a week or so, and they don't cover rentals. Being carless where we live is marginally doable for me, I can still get to work. But carless from where we are is not really an option for Tyler. Again I say Grarg.

It's not more hassle than it's worth, but I would still prefer less hassle. Living somewhere that's 100% walkable/bikeable, at least in a pinch, is an increasingly fond goal.
