Another good day at work yesterday - went to the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association annual meeting. Listened to people talk about baltimore's bright future as a tourism destination (lowest murder rate in 30 years!) and ate free cheese and fruit.
Had dinner at a nice little pizza place near my apartment that also sells cheap bottles of wine and nice salads, then went and saw experimental music at The Theater Project (also walking distance). We saw four acts - the first was an immensely talented lady not really doing anything, who reminded me uncannily of Tyler's mother. The second was amazing improvised music on trumpet, violin, guitar/electronic bits and percussive/friction/electronics. Third was a beautiful and hypnotic set by a girl with a laptop and a table full of switches and wires. The fourth was kind of awful, even though two of the performers were clearly great, the jackass with the bass clarinet just ruined it. It reminded me of nothing so much as my childhood attempt at being a one-man-band using a baking sheet, a tennis shoe, an anklet of bells and a duck call - complete with the sound of my mother screaming at me to get the hell out of the house. We'd have stayed for the fifth, but it was near midnight and work in the morning and coming down with a sore throat...
Up at 5:50 this morning - and since there's nothing in my apartment, most noticably nowhere to really sit, I made lunch and headed out. Discovered the sushi/cocktail/coffee bar XS on Charles. It has amazing pastries. Bought myself a mug for making tea at work and then decided to walk the rest of the way to work, since it was only 7:40. My wake-up alarm actually went off while I was having coffee. Walking to work in these shoes was not one of my brightest ideas recently, but I don't have blisters, and it's kind of a lovely walk. Walked past one group of construction workers sitting on a stoop - expected to ignore a catcall or two, and instead was offered a donut, congratulated on eating breakfast ("healthy choices!") and wished a nice morning.
Minorly busy day at work, (ETA: Figured out how to get GoogleCalendar in the office! Yay!) then seeing
The Yard Dogs Road Show (with
The Indigo) tonight, then epic weekend of D&D. Then back to my nice little urban life.
Forgive me if I'm goofy happy for a bit.
