I love: peas, beer, shower curtain with no mold, firefly, Caroline

I do not love: Trying to buy pants. Seriously. Near as I can tell I'm about the most freakin' average size/shape person I know. And yet? Foiled by jeans shopping. Size 8 legs, size 8 waist, size 10 hips. Why?

My body is still totally on the 'things I love' list. It's fine. I mean it's fine. But it's not even all that particularly curvy. These hips do not merit a road avisory sign, and this ass is about as politely waspy as it gets. It's there, but seriously, I got no junk in the trunk. I'm just happy that I have a trunk. (Maybe I should go back to biking more, 'cause then... but that's a different point)

I'm not making a political argument, though there's one to be made. I'm not the girl to do it; I was once asked to leave a Lane Bryant. Not trying to brag, it's not an ego thing, but I'm right in the middle, middle to light, of the height weight charts for white women under 40. 5'6, 145, B cup, y'know? BMI of 'borderline overweight, but who isn't?' If there's a 'standard' woman, and there's not, but if there were, I'd have to be pretty close.

And I understand when my shoulders don't fit into women's clothes, I'm over it: I have kinda broad shoulders for a woman. I come from hardy central european farm stock and it shows. The word 'linebacker' has come up before in moments of honesty. But I really don't have unmanagable hips. 'Child bearing' yes, I hear that, but not actually 'wide' and definitely not out of proportion to either my waist or my legs.

I just want a pair of moderately skanky new jeans that don't require a belt. Is that really so hard? Mid rise straight leg or boot cut jeans. Without acid washing or massive holes pre-ripped in them, because really, I will wear my clothes that hard all on my own, thank you. That's why I'm shopping for jeans in the first place. I would like the waist be less than two inches away from my waist and I would like the legs to be fairly tight at least halfway down the thigh. And with even one of those requirements met, I would also like the zipper to close all the way. Ideally without cutting off circulation.

Ok, so really, I just get over it and accept the belt part, right? That's how you do it?

you don't care
