My bank made my credit card go away.
About a week ago I suddenly noticed that the online account summary for my credit card had been wiped. I knew I had some charges on it, including a balance transfer that was showing up on my checking summary, but it had nothing, no charge history whatsoever, for the credit account. I made a payment anyway, figuing it was a temporary glitch. That payment has been sitting there, showing as an increase in credit limit.
I emailed the bank helpdesk, they said they couldn't help me. Went to the bank, they couldn't figure out what was wrong.
Just now, I'm going through my back mail for the last couple weeks and I found an answer. I'm not very punctual about opening the credit card mail because I use the online service so I'm always weeks ahead of whatever they send me. So here's what it is:
They gave me a new credit card. A 'platinum' card. And transfered my online account service to the new card without telling me.
I didn't ask for a new card. I didn't apply or sign for anything. I haven't activated it. I barely used the old one. I have it to build a credit history. I pay it off before there's ever interest. Lately, I've been using it for train tickets to baltimore (because it autoenters your information on the ticket if you use credit instead of debit) and that's it. But sometime in the last three weeks I got sent a new credit card, and all my online access to my old one disappeared. Without my bank apparently having any record of it.
This is not the end of the world. I will fix it. But I am seriously not pleased.
