daaaaaaaaaaamn, I have so never seen Richard/Nicci before, but I see it here. I love how you've loaded so much into a scene that's less than thirty seconds. I love that he's punishing himself for such a brief temptation, because he would; his virtue and steadiness are things he clings to, and without them, even for a brief moment, he feels weak and startled.

When he saw that blaze in her eyes, he knew he should have been repulsed. Instead, he wanted her to drag him into her hell and let the fire consume him.

This and the other line about Denna I think really harken back to that relationship, because Denna him love through suffering, and dear god, Richard's issues would trend toward that. The dangerous, the terrifying, the painful, these would hold powerful allures for him. It's even present with Kahlan, because her power is more dangerous than either Denna or Nicci's, or at least, at this point in the canon it seems so. I think this fic really ties together the complicated relationships Richard has with extremely powerful women, and how he's drawn to that power, wants on some level to be subjugated by it.

This was one of my favorite scenes EVAR, and I was dying to know what was going on inside his head. He just stood there. Nicci had just hurt Kahlan, and he just stood there while she came on to him. I had to know why.

I was on the fence about whether to include the line about Denna (this is why it takes me so long to write things - I agonize over each sentence or one word...:p), but I'm glad to hear you think it's a useful addition that ties everything together :)

I find it weird that even though Richard wasn't one of my favorite characters from the outset (I think that's changing very quickly, ESPECIALLY after a lot of things things you say about him), I find it easiest to get inside his head. I think I'd find it very difficult to write from Kahlan or Cara or whoever's perspective.

I think with Richard, and this does not detract from my love for him, but damn, dude, the poor boy is HARD UP. I mean remember that scene in I think it was "Bloodline" where he and Kahlan have knife/swordfight? Point being, these are two EXTRAORDINARILY sexually pent up characters. So I can see him having his moments where it's like, lust gets to him, even if it's not for Kahlan, because damn, he's still human, you know? He's still a young man. So I can read this fic and not feel like it's OOC, and not feel like he's betraying Kahlan by having this moment, and yet, he still would feel like the guilt, because that's how he rolls, so I like how you touched on the temptation, and then the guilt over that temptation, because it's so IC for me.

I think the Denna line is important because it ties in that "thing" Richard has for assertive, powerful women. I mean, even Anna proved herself to be kind of a badass when we got to know the real her in "Hartland." Strong women are his type. So there's the draw with Denna, and Nicci, and Kahlan, and it's all kind of intermingled. I hope I'm explaining this clearly, heh.

I'm glad I've managed to sell you on the awesome of Richard. :D

*glee* at the fact it doesn't seem out-of-character - that's another reason it's hard for me to write fanfic - I just usually don't get the characters as well as I'd like, and I'm afraid I'll screw them up. Even Nicci. I can't really easily play around with her mind :p

I don't remember "Hartland" too well - for some reason I cannot get through that episode a second time, but yeah, I understand what you're saying ;)
