There's a joke in here somewhere

I'm in this giant oil-loving state, but in my area, pretty much everybody relies on electricity for heat, and that electricity comes from burning coal.  But not the coal that grows in our neighborhood, oh no, this is prime Wyoming coal, brought here by diesel locomotives, because our Texas coal is too high in sulfur.  But it's the coldest it's been in years this week, and everybody's trying to keep from freezing to death, so we're over-stressing the power grid, and we're having rolling blackouts.  I've got a blanket and a candle and a laptop (separated by adequate distance, I promise) so I'm just going to roll with the blackouts, if you will.

Dear People Who Deal With This Every Winter,

What do you do with your hair?  I've got hats to protect my noggin from frostbite, but I'm also long-haired (and wavy, not straight), and the hats are detrimental to my coif.  And I'm speaking at a professional workshop tomorrow and Friday.  Do you get there, take the hat off, and hope for the best?  High-tail it to the washroom and make emergency repairs?  Paste it down with product so the hat has no effect?  I fear I will arrive with slicked down helmet hair on top and windblown fluff on the bottom, and probably a raging case of static to go with it all.

Still hoping  for a Snowfriday.
