~ I'm not going to get into the politics and my personal beliefs involving homosexuality. I just want to point out the fact that we as Americans are so conservative and culturally behind when it comes to this topic. Look back to ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, they celebrated homosexuality. To them it was cosidered perfectly normal. Just ( Read more... )

Hmm. That's all fine and dandy I suppose; but tell me the last time someone was beaten up for being straight. Or fired for being straight. See what I mean? Telling someone basically that if they don't wanna be discriminated against then stop saying they're gay is really just as bad as hushing gay people up and stuffing them back into the closet. Now I don't go around touting that i'm gay but I sure as hell don't hide it. Obviously gay people in some aspects are different then the straights... gay people who are... outspoken... will obviously make themselves heard. Kinda typical of what minorities do :) Funny thing is is that homosexuality has practically been around since the dawn of mankind... if it were to become a more natural thing by having people stop proclaiming their homosexuality.. which they did oh so carefully back in those days when you'd be executed for it.. obviously shutting up the gays didn't really make it a more natural thing.

I don't believe in anyone having to shut up or not show that they are proud of who they are to avoid discrimination... in my view, it defeats the whole purpose of anti-discrimination. While I don't have a problem with straight people one bit... and I am assuming you are of course... I don't think you can properly understand what it is like living in a world that hates you because you happen to share a bed with someone of the same gender.. and yet.. it's okay if two females do it. Maybe when society stops treating us so differently.. maybe those who are perhaps a bit.. loud with their sexuality will calm down. Now, if you have spent a while as a gay guy.. well then hopefully you truely do understand... I just don't know you very well and don't want to just say like "Oh.. you're just some straight guy who's never had to deal with the crap we go through that you take for granted everyday" and maybe you have at some point. Just wanted to ensure that was clear :) Don't get me wrong, I understand your view as well... i'm not too into the flamming gay type either.. they're very annoying, though humorous at times.. and they are far more outspoken about their sexuality then others. But you'll find that because heterosexuality is more common, people naturally don't go around toting "I'm straight" because people naturally assume someone's straight (except for flamming homosexuals of course). But anyway, it is important to not forget the whole point of these posts.. which was the writing Alex posted up. You straight people have it easy compared to gay ones... you don't have to worry about being killed.. beaten... shunned by family... being refused treatement by a paramedic cuz they think you have aids or something or as pointed.. the transexuals... and when people are not happy.. they make themselves heard one way or another. Perfect example also being the middle east :P Anyway, I do hope you don't read this wrong because oy I know text can be taken in the wrong tone.. Take it easy dude.
