Two weeks worth here.
Session before this one, I'd been sort of muddling and trying to figure out what to do with the group. I know where the plot's going, I knew what the players were looking for to an extent, but there was a bit of a hiccup in my mind on getting them from where they were to where they wanted to be. Spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do before it clicked in my head about an hour and a half, two hours before the session. It was kind of haphazard and put together on short notice, and didn't have combat type stuff going, but it worked out pretty well as a roleplaying session.
This week's session continued that, with some unexpected embellishments to the plot--Ben did something unexpected, and I let him go with it and it turned out to be very serendipitous because it put things into a much better position for me to work with. Got to do a bit of combat, too, once they left the party. Put them up for a rematch against a couple enemies who have unclear motives but aren't very friendly--there've been comments several times from several players to the effect that they were looking forward to the rematch, since they've fought these guys before. Got away again, still no answers, but damn if it's not a good bit of rivalry. Can't afford to keep doing that though, since I already have seven-fingers who keeps vanishing without a trace and a certain gnome illusionist causing them trouble on behalf of another old foe. It's not fair to the players to snatch victory from their hands every time...but then again, I was already actively planning for some of these nemeses to die coming up pretty soon, as it is, so this is just more motiivation to see to it happening.
