Well, ain't my life just a blast.
Firstly, the World Cup has been going on for the last few weeks, and whenever I find the time to, I glue myself to the TV, pick some team to cheer for, and watch my fill of soccer. The World Cup is one of those things that I wish happened more often but know that it gets its importance from coming so rarely (kinda like Christmas). Sadly, the US, South Korea, and Japan have all been knocked out of competition while teams I hate like Spain, France, and Brazil charge onwards, but at least with the teams narrowing down, I'll likely always have a team to cheer for. And now I can just hope the Germans go all the way.
Nothing beats having been in Germany during the previous World Cup; Germany made it to the finals, and Turkey (about 5% of the German population are Turks) made it to the semifinals and won the runner-up game. That meant that every other day there were people celebrating in the streets. I got to watch South Korea stun Italy in overtime at a cafe. I got to watch Germany clobber Saudia Arabia 9-0. It was beautiful. Of course, the funniest thing was that with all the German and Turkish victories, the day with the most celebration was the day France was knocked out of the qualifying rounds by Denmark. Suck that France!
The other bright news recently is that I'm getting a new car. The deal should be completed tomorrow, so I'll be driving about the town in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Ah Hyundai, Cadillacs of the second tier automobiles. It'll be nice to drive a car that doesn't have the age-quirks that the Honda does, though I will dearly miss my Accord. She's been a good car to me, and we've stuck together through thick and thin. There's probably some theory about men becoming personally attached to their first car, and if there is, I'm certainly a good example of it. Sure the Hyundai has a CD-MP3 player and working A/C, but the Honda had my child-choker automatic seat belts and my ghetto pen-held-in CD player. She's given me plenty of great memories, but its time I moved on.
Of course, assuming everything goes well tomorrow with the car, I should embarking on the journey that my life has been building up to: a cross country trek to Anime Expo with Kevin. What better way to break in my new car than a 1000+ mile drive. It'll be a blast to spend the weekend with Kevin, and it'll rock even more since we'll be doing it at an anime convention (my very first). I missed the best Anime Expo last year (Maaya Sakamoto... *swoon*) but this one should rock too. I'll have to be careful not to blow a shit ton of money. Anyways, it should be awesome.
Well, that's basically all for now, so until next time...
