Anyway, my first thought is that one of the several Lucrezias running around managed to alter the message? But presumably not the one in Agatha's body, since she seemed surprised by the device going off yesterday. Or maybe Tarvek changed it? It's favorable towards him and he seems (maybe) loyal to L. Then again, with the Baron's warships here, it's actually *terrible* for him now, but he presumably didn't know they were showing up.
OTOH, I guess it's possible that it's the original message and Agatha figured B.W. had to be in on L's schemes? Or maybe he summoned her in the first place? Assuming there's any truth to the Geister's mythology? Does Agatha even know about that? Argh, I've totally forgotten who knows what at this point. Must re-read in collection format.
No, no... re-reading today's panels, I like my first theory much better. Note that the his/her pronouns have all been fuzzed out. There's static around B.W.'s name both times. Someone totally altered it. And it also occurs to me that Tarvek is an expert at duplicating voices... Incredibly dangerous game he's playing, though, if true.
Agatha doesn't know most of the Geister's mythology, and there was that flashback bit in book 4 that none of the characters knows.
But I agree with Tarvek having altered it, most likely, though when did he have the TIME? That might be why he's so freaking out about it going off- he knows that it's giving its altered message at the worst possible time. After all, all the Baron has to do to make sure no one remembers the message is wipe out the city...
The alternative is that the Foglios are really fucking with us. The Baron kicks off as an enemy figure. By this point I at least have come to consider him to be one of the heroes- antihero, perhaps, ruthless and dark, but he's trying to save the world. What if the first view was right and he's been the Other the whole time?
Each of the words in the new message appeared in the old message, except the male pronoun of course, which is why it's fuzzed out. In the original, Agatha's wearing the red bodice (Which I'm hoping to do for my Halloween costume for this year BTW) and in this one it's an image that was made after Lucrenza/The Other had taken over Agatha's body, but the words are from when Agatha recorded it. This leads me to conclude that it couldn't be Lucrenza who did it.
Tarvik is good with voices, but this was clearly a cut & paste of the original words. Is it possible he didn't do it? The new Anvecka/Lucrenza doll perhaps? But if she/The Other was also B.W.'s former lover, then there is little motivation there. Also, anyone currently in possesion of an Other body would be able to re-do the audio portion of the message themselves without the cuts.
Who would be motivated to make an anti-B.W. message? Who had the opportunity? I think Tarvik is our most likely candidate. And his plans just backfired on him. He does seem to be a very strong spark though. I'm sure he'll pull through.

PS: The white dress or the red bodice? Either could be a fun costume, but I haven't started on either one yet and time is getting short. I wonder which would be easier to make/buy.
Good question. For a long time Noah was trying to convince Robynne to go as Agatha. He wanted to be the Baron, and I do still want to go as a clank one of these days. :)
