i'm so tired. but at least i'm out of the house. at the library. i've been so ill for about a month, i had to cancel two important doctors' appts

In my stats class, we were talking about correlation and causation. Apparently there are 3 possibilities for a strong correlation: either x causes y, y causes x, or some other variable, z, is lurking and causes both x and y.
As a silly example, my professor chose the correlation between people's age (x) and the size of their ears (y).
It was determined using the y causes x explanation that if our ears stop growing, we die. And also that people wishing to commit suicide via drowning choose ice cream as their final meal (because apparently there's a correlation between ice cream consumption and drowning.)
that's very interesting - i wish i had some witty correlation example but i don't. oh - i was listening to some radio talk show and people were calling in about their weird coincidences - e.g., two guys who worked together, riding in a truck everyday eventually discovered that they were brothers, etc.
i'm bad at math but i really really liked stats! i love the whole correlation, probability, norms, etc., stuff. absolutely. i also took a symbolic logic class which was all about "causation" etc. all i remember about that class was it was kida dorky and arcane and the prof. kept proving that it was logical to believe in god.
they say your hair and toenails keep growing after you die but this is not true. it is a spectre probably caused by a bit of poorly digested brocolli or such.

The other two explanations are just boring.
