N.P.D. - It's a SERIES!

Apr 17, 2023 20:18

This will be a series of movies circling closely around the subject of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, yay.  Not all narcissists have this clinical disorder.  There are different variants of people with this disorder.  There are also different portrayals or perspectives on, characters with this disorder - or just with severe cases of common narcissism.  For example, the first movie in this series, "To Die For," not much of the dark side of NPD was depicted, even though the main character did murder someone, and get murdered herself.  (In fact, she could have been diagnosed as the worst kind of sadistic narcissist, a psychopath).  But, it was a comedy.  It was supposed to be fun, and ironic, as was the manner of the times.  Kind of like a light zombie movie.  (Those light zombies!  When they come floating at you, and all!)

Here's an even more fun depiction of a narcissist.  Interestingly, it was made in the same year as the last, in 1995.  This is why I am posting ti as number twa.  I loved this movie, as many people do.  It's like, oh that wacky rich girl!  When will she ever grow up - or be tamed?  Gosh, the inane things she does!  I'm glad I am not stupidly rich like that!  Anyway, pretty people tend to be excused with more crimes of narcissism as do the more common-looking or dull.  People are just genetically programmed to want to give them the benefit of the doubt.  Maybe there's some vague lurking promise of future sexual exploits, or money opportunities, or realisation of the Disney fantasies of childhood, or dreams that life SHOULD be easy and free, or whatever.  Narcissists spark a fire of significance in other people's lives, waking them up, and getting them motivated - usually manipulated.  Which is unfortunate, because people can and should also be sparked to get motivated to do altruistic things, and such.

Some girls are the kind of narcissists we just love to forgive.

In, "Clueless," both a great teen HS movie and romantic comedy - made by the same woman who made Fast Times, was it?? - the main character is even less dark than Suzanne in, "To Die For."  She is, unlike most narcissists, clueless - and completely well-meaning, though self-obsessed.  Just a little aloof and out-there, and naive about what the world might find acceptable or doable.  She is not really planning and scheming to tear people down, ruin lives or profit from destruction - as we begin to see in something like, "Mean Girls."  Nevertheless, she is very good at her little plans and stragedies, and she does tend to get her way.  So, she is manipulative.  But sometimes that sort of thing is a bit relative.  Imagine yourself transplanted into a land of slugs, and you propose all sorts of new adventures, just because that's how you think - that's how you grew up.  Many slugs might get swooped up in all of your dazzle - a cult of personality.  Other slugs might conspire to attack you with knives one night.  Because, you know.  Conservatives.

This series will focus on female narcissists.  But, if it lasts long enough, and the world is still around, it might switch over to male narcissists later.  Remember, or watch, the versions of the movie, "Gaslight," presented here, which relates importantly to the subject.  And you can find my series on narcissism and psychopathy HERE, should you want to learn about this extremely important and ever-timely subject!

I might also have mentioned the movie, "Clueless," in ONE OF THESE POSTS.

And now here is the effervescent, "Clueless," of 1995.  (Followed by a song beloved by many non-narcissists).
