the foxes i have seen up close and personal are cute but pretty stinky. plus, pet trade breeding usually isn't as careful about genetic diversity as breeders in accredited zoos. it can actually harm the natural gene pool if poorly managed populations are reintroduced. and, you would have to pull the breeding stock from the already endangered population, reducing their breeding pool. then, finally, since foxes haven't been domesticated by humans, they aren't going to be equivalent to a dog. they will still have many of their natural instincts intact, which can make them more aloof, unpredictable, and possibly more aggressive in some circumstances.
