I was wondering if you knew about the rocks. You could visit them one day but they are, well, rocks.

I didn't notice the lady, but the guy's mispronunciation riled me! He has some quirks I don't like which I might mention in another post. It kind of makes sense that he overlooked talking to Cherokee!

I looked up the Spear-Finger legend. Wikipedia had a fair amount of info. If there was some basis of truth for these legends, it looks like these were people with genetic disorders. The giants of yore were said to have had double rows of teeth. Why would anyone imagine such a myth - sounds more like something real.

He also mentioned a horned serpent, which I also looked up. Greeks also had similar myths. The serpent is both an evil spirit and also a powerful source of healing. I am intrigued by how Indo-European myths and language can resemble those of native Americans, especially in the east.

Here's a badly produced video by a myth expert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaKg2HNanIE

So - Sylva! I was interested in it back when I was looking into that area as a possible place in which to dwell. Also, Cherokee. Looks like all of Jackson County is good. Hypothesis: The cafe moved to Whittier because it is in decline, and less expensive if the owners were wanting to retire or something. Cullowhee, named after Judamonster guy, ("Judacullah's Place"), has the university. And mild climate. Touristy area, national park, Cherokee heritage, etc. So, yeah!

You live in a really interesting part of the country. That's lucky because you are into unsolved mysteries, etc!

PS - Probably just a coincidence that this monster is named Juda... monster guy... Maybe I should post on this also since there is too much for a comment!!!

I did not know of The Rocks. Though I wish I had because that would have been fun to see when we visited Sylva. We were lacking things to do that day. If we visit again I'll remember the Rock. I don't have cause to go to Kentucky. But It's possible to revisit Sylva.

It riles me too. Like, I'm Appalachian since...well forever. Our roots here are deep. Pre-civil war. We were...obviously confederates but we're mostly good folk now. I hate when people say "appa-lay-sha" like they're trying to make it sound educated. Like Appalachia is back water. There's a lot of diversity, intelligence and experience here and it feels like people try to discredit it. No, I'm not surprised he didn't talk to Cherokee either. He's ignorant.

Yeah neat little legend, probably a disorder like you said.

Yeah, Sylva is really nice and quiet. Cullowhee is good. I had some friends who lived there for a while. Jackson, Swain, and Cherokee. All places I'd move to if I had to. Especially Swain.
It is interesting! I probably take it for granted sometimes.
