"Red-eye radio," in the background: Gary is describing how he and a friend gave up on sports, independently of each other. The political agenda was the trigger. But they just don't feel like watching anymore, for any reason.
Can I just say that I reached that point decades ago? I don't see the point of watching sports on TV, when there is so little time for me to do anything else. People I don't know, skirmishing around, doing things I don't plan on doing, racking up the millions while I stew like chicken for my dog? Even if there were males in my life to yack and yuck this stuff up with, those aren't any sort of guys I'd be interested in knowing. Rubber-headed time-wasters.
I was a great runner, for many years. I big weight-lifter. I walked everywhere - and still do. And so on. Why bother watching other people playing golf or baseball when I've got a full life just naturally being active - and now having CFS, which is even tougher?
I'd watch the Olympics - but I don't really have a TV now, and I don't care. (I have a mini TV/DVD/CD player, but the signal is too much to struggle to pull in, I don even try anymore. And I wouldn't watch sports, if it worked better.
I've played baseball, softball, football, tennis, badminton, pool, track, surfing, and so on, but I don't need to do that now, and WATCH it? Why?! I'd say the one sport I ever really gave a hoot about was hockey, and the Olympics. The Olympics now have an agenda, but hockey doesn't seem to. But, now that I no longer live in Wisconsin, I don't feel any need to watch that, either.
sports = stupid
