It was like throwing down my shield and screaming "Universe, do your worst!". And the world did not disappoint.
I started drinking as soon as I could. Fortunately, I was tall, chunky, and had an early beard, so generally could buy it. I never was a "social" drinker ... I was a Conehead drinker, hell-bent to consume vast quantities. I remember getting cases of cheap champagne for parties in high school, where 3 bottles were for me, 3 bottles were for another heavy drinker, and the other six were for everybody else. All substance abuse was aimed at oblivion
