Waterloo Sunset

Mar 31, 2020 18:46

It's beginning.

The sirens.

The yells over cellphones a day before rent is due.

The loud honks and shouts - more cars again - as if enough is enough - and yet it hasn't even begun.

The Big Mac littered where my dog can smell it, signifying defiance.

The man downstairs loudly whining and complaining over the phone.

A-hole Guy flaunting his Angry Motorcycle once again, ripping through the calm like construction machinery.

The World Bank warns of a global economic shock.  The lesser developed countries begin their collapse.  Detroit becomes the USA's next epicentre - one step closer to where I am.

Shortages in oranges and other commodities.  Groceries and utilities begin to ponder the idea of failing.

The beast sloths in, bringing promises of war, hyperinflation and collapse.

People die in hermetically sealed rooms, wanting one last hug from family.  Children play on a new, sunny day, and curse instead of sing.  And the icy fingers of death puncture my last stand, threatening to take one more life away from me.

As long as I gaze at Waterloo Sunset, I am in paradise...
