It's a shame what happened to the Monkeys. They did some great pop mx. They accepted the fact that they were commercial fabrication, an imitation, and all of them had a rough time dealing with it. So, it all came to a HEAD, when they made this self-satire movie, which pretty much was their swan song. But, they were so OUT-THERE on this, their trailers were just too avant-garde for audiences to be enticed to see a movie of such uncertainty and even threat, especially when the popular culture opinion was that anything the Monkeys did HAD to be bad. The Monkeys were already personae non-grati. In one sense, they were completely aware of this, and so they made HEAD partly as an act of rebellion, overlaid upon the pop/hippie rebellion the movie was emulating.
