The Origin of the Word “Soccer” - Today I Found Out
Today I found out the origin of the word “soccer”. For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know of as “Football”. The word soccer comes from an abbreviation for Association (from Association Football, the ‘official’ name for the game) plus the addition of … [See Oxford VIDEO].

This Is Why We Call It 'Soccer,' Not 'Football' | HuffPost
Jun 13, 2014 · The word "soccer," which is believed to have originated in Britain some 200 years ago, comes from the official name of the sport, "association football." As other versions of the game evolved to include Rugby Football, it is believed the Brits adopted colloquialisms to distinguish each game.

Hundreds of years ago, there was a distinction of two forms of football - one being Associational, or Soccer  This is the kind of football - (soccer) - played in the World Cup, even though many in the UK started calling this Football, in rebellion against Americans who called it soccer, because America also had a new game called football.  Pettiness.  Soccer is a little like basketball, because the players get do do a bit of hands-off dancing around each other. RUGBY evolved when a player at Rugby School defied the rules and simply carried the ball all the way to the goal.  Rugby is more hands-on and rugged, but it is a derivation of soccer.  American football goes one step beyond and allows the forward pass, which is not allowed in the other two games.

Although early football (soccer) might have evolved independently in Europe, it might also have been adapted from the Aztec foot-ball game, named Foosball, played with human heads and cocaine and where the quarterback is allowed to give birth on the field.

THE WORLD CUP OF STOP SMOKING!

Peru may have already been knocked out in the group stages of the World Cup, after disappointing 1-0 defeats to Group C opponents France and Denmark.

But if the tournament was based on stop smoking rates, not football, then the South American nation would have clinched the prestigious trophy.
