Naomi Klein - Part 2

(Naomi Klein - Part 1 is HERE).

Naomi Klein is best known for her book, called, "The Shock Doctrine," about crisis capitalism, and political-media fabrication of shocking events. It was a huge success. Her latest book is about the environment, in crisis: "This Changes Everything." She has had appearances in the media, on the subject of the environment, (but not as much as for the previous book). It seems that the media largely does not want to hear it. Hopefully, after the Pope's Encyclical, there will be more notice of this latest book.

Here is her website - http://www.naomiklein.org

Here is a piece by Klein on this subject - Capitalism vs. the Climate

LJ friend, disgruntledgirl, recently posted an interview by Naomi Klein, which disgruntledgirl raved about! - (but which I am unable to hear): Johann Hari & Naomi Klein: Does Capitalism Drive Drug Addiction? - The author, Hari, spoke with Klein about his book, "Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs."...

And here is a contribution from longtime LJ friend, eviltracey:

What Stephen Holmes neglects to mention is that the free market only comes into play when it's convenient for richies. I saw an article about Vancouver's real estate market (which is crazy stupid expensive for no good reason) that covers this point.

I read The Shock Doctrine years ago. I thought she made some good points (although I should note that less negative events, like the prospect of holding an Olympic Games, also seems to bring the shock doctrine into effect, too).
