I am going to write about this on here because I am tired of reading/listening about it elsewhere and I feel this is my sounding board, so if you don't like it...leave

Hey there. You pose an interesting point. I don't hate who Palin is. I do disagree with some of her politics. I've posted some thoughtful articles about her on facebook/myspace or about this race on those sites, but I don't think I've posted any hateful articles. I see your point of view about being raped. I can't say what I'd do if I was in that position, but I can say that I'd be horrified if I didn't have the choice to have an abortion. I have said numerous times that I sympathize with both sides of the abortion debate. Although I don't agree with Palin on the rape/incest part, that isn't the main thing that turns me off from her and John McCain's politics. I have never imagined that abortion could be an easy thing to go through. I imagine it to take a toll on a woman both emotionally and physically. That is why I've tried really hard to not get pregnant up until now (That among other things.) That being said, if I were to be raped and conceived a baby, I acknowledge that I can't predict how I'd react and that I'd have a difficult decision to make. But in a case like that, I think I should have the right to make that decision. While the woman is a victim as well as the baby, the woman is the one who will carry the burden of being: traumatized by the rape, raising the baby, and having a reminder of being raped. Some women don't want to be pregnant and don't want to be mothers. :) Anyway babe, just wanted to add my two cents, but I have noticed people are being particularly harsh towards Palin, and it kinda boggles my mind too, mainly because no one seemed to be this outraged at GW running against Gore, and I think GW is a clown. So this "outrage" is kinda delayed and Palin is being unfairly targeted to bear the brunt of it simply for her politics and family life.
Thanks for that, it was very well thought out. I am also for women having choice. Ultimately though I think contraception is the ultimate goal and education so people do not have kids in the first place. For me, it is an issue of responsibility also. If you are of child bearing age and sexually active, then you should be using contraception. Rape, of course, then becomes the ultimate problem. I do really feel that people need to work with Rape victims months and years after they have abortions, it just changes your perspective. In some cases (actually I was with a women yesterday who was in this situation) having the child from the rape actually helped her to regain herself and to accurately identify who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. I just don't like people (not referring to my close friends) who make absolute statements without having experienced both sides of the equation.
In short it is my ultimate hope that women would choose not to have an abortion. They don't have to keep the child, there are SO many parents that can not have children that are willing to adopt. It is just a mater of giving a life where in a sense one was taken.
But again, I do really appreciate your thoughtful answer, it is because of people like you that things can be discussed instead of fought over. Love you! Good luck in NY.
