Holy fuckin' shit, Dan! You own all the M.P. DVD's? I am in awe. i am inspired, etc etc. Well dammit, I ALMOST have everything. But most of it is bootlegged. Have you seen the man with 3 buttocks? The Encyclopedia Salesman? The Atilla the Hun Show? Bicyle Repairman? Dennis Moore? etc etc etc? Well if so, that is so fucking lovely I think i will die now. Cause hardly ANYONE has seen the show to it's sublime completion. Monty Python is the end-all and be-all of my comedic existence.
It's a hard call, but beween music and comedy, I think comedy wins all. I will sink into humorous oblivous now.......

I've seen all of these you mention, and know them well. I have not seen the German Episodes that are part of the Life Of Python DVD. My copy is still on VHS (haven't upgraded that one yet).

My name's not Dan.

Oh i know you're not Dan (you're Mark!) but it was a silly George Carlin reference. :) I'm so happy you know all the episodes......and the German ones aren't THAT great. Get the Hollywood Bowl live show, it has the best bits. Like the German philosophers v. the Greek philosophers playing soccer. It only comes to a climax when John Cleese's Euripedes (?) says EUREKA!!! and makes a goal. And then there is Cleese playing the role of Little Red Riding Hood. that is precious. :)
The whole Hollywood Bowl concert is just brilliant. I loves it! To the point of memorizing whole skits. I am SUCH a dork!

How did you manage to meet John Cleese?

well this is sorta lame, but he is an honorary professor at Cornell University, where I happen to be a graduate student. Unhappily. I am getting a PhD in French history, which is all fine and lovely cause my prof is a genius, but.....well, it's not entirely satisfying creatively ( ... )

What, then, was your oh-so-clever question? That's what I want to know. Did you get to ask him?

Actually, it wasn't all that clever. When he asked for questions from the audience, I had a good one about parallels I saw between WC Fields onscreen and Basil Fawlty. But really it sounds lame now. :p

I should have asked him about his wife, she's a Texan (like me) so maybe that would've been a good "in." That's the 3rd American woman he's married, he must have good taste!

He said this lovely thing once: "In Britain, girls seem to be either bright or attractive. In America, that's not the case. They're both."

No offense to British women, of course. :)
