London- Sherlock Holmes, self-titled “consulting detective” and internet notable, died yesterday evening by apparent suicide at St. Batholomew’s Hospital in central London. He was 32.
Holmes was known for his deductive skills and his assistance to the New Scotland Yard, most notably in the recovery of J.W.M. Turner’s famous painting “The Great Falls of the Reichenbach.” In events leading to the day of his death, he was implicated in a scandal that alleged that Holmes orchestrated the crimes that he solved, including inventing the identity of James Moriarty, recently pronounced not guilty of attempting to steal the Crown Jewels. According to the New Scotland Yard press release, the investigation into this matter is ongoing. Holmes’ contact at the agency, Detective Inspector Gregory Lestrade, could not be reached for comment.
In related news, the actor apparently hired to portray Moriarty, Richard Brook, has been missing since yesterday. Brook has been quoted extensively in the report that labelled Holmes a “fraud.” “He was very scared of what Mr. Holmes was capable of,” said reporter Kitty Reilly, in a press conference on the evening following Holmes’ apparent suicide.
Holmes’ colleague, Dr. John Watson, was not available for comment at press time.
