Dayna and I went to Columbus Winterfair this afternoon. I've gone every year for the past few. It's an artsy/craftsy show thingie where the artisans come to ply their wares. It's fun. I've been going enough to know a lot of the vendors. They fall into a few categories.
1. The Jars and Mixes People. We always hit these first. Here are your folks with homemade jams, crock pot mixes, envelopes of mix to make dip, special honey, etc. Usually the most affordable stuff in the whole festival. There's one guy who does hot drink mixes and he has tons of sugar free, I made a point to visit there this year and picked up a few mixes. I've been missing cocoa and cider and the store-bought mixes just don't cut it but these are way better.
2. Jewelry. Of any and all varieties. Most of which just serves to depress me that I can't afford most of it.
3. Textiles. Here we get a lot of those handmade artisan jackets, plus the usual scarves/hats/purses. there is one vendor who's always there who makes these AMAZING felted mittens out of old sweaters. Anybody can do that but hers are really amazing and well made. They're lined with cashmere. I'd love a pair but they're like $70.
4. Pottery. No comment.
5. Metalwork. Large items for yards.
6. Fine art and photography. Cool to look at, sometimes the prints are affordable.
6. Random miscellany. Banks made from vintage post office boxes (so cool), for example.
I was feeling snazzy today because I wore my rainbow socks
And my awesome felted-wool-bead necklace
And seriously, like twenty different people complimented me on one or both of these items. I felt glamorous. Plus my hair was doing the happy flippy thing it's started to do which I love to pieces (as seen in the necklace photo).
I got a couple of Christmas presents and I did buy a piece of art for myself. There was a guy who had paintings in that colorful hyperreal style that I rather like. His prints were nicely matted and quite inexpensive. Dunno where I'm going to put it, that's for sure. I'll figure something out. Dayna didn't really like it but it's not everyone's taste. I like it, though.
