Well, it's a sad day.
Those of you who've read my blog in the past know that I have been eagerly anticipating the day when "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" would be released on DVD. In fact, I'm bitter that it hasn't happened yet. That was my favorite show when I was, you know, ten years old and I've watched it when it's been on various syndicated reruns off and on through the years.
It seems that it'll likely never happen. The word from Warner is that the source material isn't of sufficient quality for a DVD remaster. Someone also asked Bruce Boxleitner about it at a con and he got all sad and said it wasn't going to happen for technical reasons. Bummer.
I mean, I could still get it on DVD. There are plenty of sites where you can order it, they're pretty much just direct video transfers, but some sites do a damn good job with that. That's how I got the one and only season of "Medical Investigation" on DVD and those were great. Commercials professionally clipped out, decent-looking menu screens, nice case, the works. Looks like this'll be the only way to get Scarecrow. Le sigh.
Last night I was busily writing away when the power went out. It was near to the time I planned to head to bed anyway, but it was a little disconcerting. My laptop kept going, battery power, but the cable went out too, so no Internet. Lucky me, I have a broadband modem (wonderful invention, that is, if a little pricey for how seldom I use it) so I was still in touch with the world. It came back around 3 a.m., waking me up when my fan clicked back on and the smoke alarm did that screeching thing it does for ten seconds after a power outage. This morning on the way to work I saw utility crews repairing a demolished pole just across the street. Someone must have hit it with a car. I did hear sirens soon after the power went out.
Moving on.
I've been a little out of touch with the gay fiction writing world since surgery, although I do correspond with the webmistress of one of the most popular review sites. She tells me that my "fans" keep asking when I'm going to have something new out. That's an excellent question. I am pretty much nowhere on the sequel to "Zero at the Bone" although I am writing well on other things. Zero itself seems to still be selling fairly well. It keeps popping back onto the Amazon category bestsellers, and a lot of people continue to mark it as "to-read" on Goodreads. And in the last week, the Amazon percentage of "people who viewed this title and then bought it" has gone from 62% to 66%. I have no idea what that means. My next royalty check, which I ought to receive at the end of October, will be revealing. It'll reflect Amazon sales and all other sales not direct from Dreamspinner.
I have the notion that I might release a new novella, unrelated to Zero, before the sequel is finished. That's one of the things I've been working on. I kinda got carried away with an idea I had, like you do. I would like to get out another Jack-and-D short story for the website soon, though. If I do this new story as a novella, it'll likely be available in e-book only. If it bloats into a full-on book (as tends to happen to me) it might be paperback. Don't want to get too far ahead of myself, though.
In the meantime I am here at work enjoying a cup of coffee and the fact that it's Friday.
