Newsflash: women not uteruses with legs.

I'm not usually a person who flies off the handle at every perceived injustice of the world. Certain topics get me riled, but for the most part, I shrug it off.

But for some reason, there's this one billboard that I see on my way to work that MAKES ME CRAZY.

I pass a large hospital as I get off the freeway, and they've got this big billboard up advertising their new Women's Health Center. Great, fine. I have actually benefitted from this center...I got my first mammogram there and they had state-of-the-art equipment, experienced techs and a totally stress-free experience that I can't praise enough.

But then there's this billboard. On the billboard about the new Women's Center is a picture, not of a woman, but of a couple. A man a woman, and the woman is pregnant.

Of course. Because women's health is all about PREGNANCY. Naturally that'd be the message, since half of the females on Earth aren't of childbearing age (probably more than half, actually) and those who are, are only pregnant for a tiny percentage of the time. And because many of the most serious women's health issues affect a larger proportion of women past menopause.

I appreciate that anyone focusing on women's health is going to spend considerable time focusing on reproductive issues. But you know, there's already an entire speciality dedicated to that. One would think that if an entire clinic was going to dedicate itself to women's health, it would want to project an image of concerning itself with health issues that affect all women. Like breast cancer, and osteoporosis, and nutrition, and HPV. Like my mammogram. Or how about problems that both sexes have, but for which women may require different treatment? Like arthritis, or AIDS?

This bugs me. I am bugged.

Okay, deep breath. New topic.

It's that time! That exciting time! Time for a new cell phone!! Yay. I've been desperately wanting a web-capable phone. I've been very happy with my LG enV (the orange one, natch) but I want to be able to get Google Maps and Wikipedia on my phone, dammit. I'm thinking I'll get the LG Versa.

What does one do with old cell phones, anyway? I still have my first one in a drawer somewheres.
