Happy Valentine's Day, to everyone not boycotting it. It's a quiet day here at the Mad House. Brian's here working on his cv. I'm flitting between several projects. There may be pizza in our future.
The other day, I had an abrupt realization. For the first time in my memory...I am not actively involved in a fandom.
That gave me pause. Is that true? Well...yes. I'm not currently writing any fic in a fandom. I have been working on some Tin Man fic but I don't know if that's going to pan out, and even if it does, I'm not really involved in the fandom. I still read my BBM forum every day and read some of the fic, but I wouldn't say I'm really involved anymore. I'm certainly not writing anything new there (but no, I haven't abandoned TCJ).
What's the most telling feature is that there is currently nothing that I have a fannish-type interest in. There's no TV show, movie or book that I'm fangirling.
I would have thought that this would leave me with some kind of absence in my head, that the lack of a fannish interest would leave a hole, but that isn't really the case. I'm busy enough with things that interest me. I've got my book coming out, I'm working on its sequel so I can have it ready when the time comes, I'm working on "Third," I've got myriad freelance projects...my mental space is cluttered enough.
Of course, this could all change tomorrow. I could discover some new fan interest and become obsessed with it. On the other hand, part of me is wondering if I'm capable anymore of that kind of focused attention that being a fan requires.
Oh, please. Who am I kidding? I'm only wondering if I'm capable because I don't have one at the moment. If I found a new one I'd be just as fangirly as ever.
In the meantime I'll go about my business. Tra la, tra la.
So...not much love for yesterday's necklace! Here's today's:
And I just have to show you the earrings that came with it because they're so cute.
This set was a recent acquisition from Etsy, where I should no longer be allowed to go. I love the idea of owning one-of-a-kind jewelry, and it abounds on that site (which, in case you're unaware, is a marketplace site for handmade items). In fact, I recently splurged on a totally awesome necklace there that I hope to show you next week.
