It's all crazy up in here.

My roommate. He be crazy.

So I made a casserole earlier and I had a soup cooking in the small crock pot, but it wasn't going to be done until ten o'clock (mostly was making it for future meals, but we both wanted to try it when it was done). I was downstairs in the Lair, Eric was upstairs in his own Lair. At ten o'clock I went up to add in the final couple of ingredients. First I went to the bathroom.

Now, you need to get a bit of my apartment's layout for this. The kitchen has one half-wall with a pass-through to the dining/living room, so when I stand at the sink I can look out into the whole living room, the couch, the TV, whatever.

So I came out of the bathroom. I thawed out some broccoli under hot water and cut it up. I measured the cheese. I added it to the soup, stirred, etc. I washed a few dishes. I cleaned up a bit. I made a fresh pitcher of iced tea. All this took a good ten minutes.

I headed out into the living room and there is Eric sitting on the couch. "Jesus Christ!" I said, stopping short and grabbing the DVD cabinet lest I fall right over. "How long have you been sitting there?!?"

He'd come downstairs while I was in the bathroom and had been quietly sitting on the couch, watching me, waiting for me to notice him and somehow I didn't, despite the fact that according to him, I looked out into the living room several times and once looked almost directly at him. I guess I was in my own little world.

I just stood there catching my breath while Eric went nearly apoplectic with laughter he'd been suppressing the whole time. It took him five minutes to recover.

All I could think was that it was a good thing I hadn't done anything embarrassing or unseemly like pick my nose or talk to myself while he was waiting for me to notice he was there.

My crock pot...let me show you it! Except mine is black. Or "onyx black" as it's described, which is completely redundant.

Tomorrow I am going to make a pot roast in it. Indie Dayna is coming over to watch Deadwood and then the Oscars and BtaG might be over too.

The ham and cheese soup I made in the crock pot was tasty, but weird-looking. I used cheddar cheese and I shouldn't have. It melts greasily and made the milk/water/butter soup base look all curdly. I should use Velveeta next time.

And somehow, today, I saved $30 dollars at the grocery store. My total before the cashier rang in my buyer's card was like $70 (it's expensive when you buy meat) but after, it went down to $40. I knew that the pot roasts I was buying were buy one get one free, but later at home it seems I got the chicken breasts free, too. I don't know why.

Weird.
