So I finally got around to watching my taped premiere of "Dirty Sexy Money" in my quest to empty out the DVR queue before the new week starts and fills it up again.
I love it. I thought it'd be overwrought and melodramatic, a la Nip/Tuck, and not that it isn't, but it is in a kind of snarky, understated way that's very appealing.
I love Peter Krause, although he does seem to be building a cottage industry out of conscience-ridden anti-establishment characters who inherit jobs they don't want from their fathers who aren't who they thought they were. My, the "Six Feet Under alums" are doing awfully well, aren't they? Peter's on this show, MCH is on Dexter, Rachel Griffiths is on "Brothers & Sisters," Freddy Rodriguez was in "Grindhouse," Eric Balfour and James Cromwell were both on "24,"...what's Lauren Ambrose up to these days, anyway?
I love that the most evil, vilest member of the family is the clergyman. I love that the sweetest one is the ne'er-do-well party boy. I love that the senator-to-be is having an affair with a transsexual, who is played by a real transsexual. And that Billy Baldwin has aged to be just as doughy as his brothers. I love that Nick's secretary gave everyone their own ringtone. I love that there's a mystery, and I love that by the end of the pilot things are all turned around, and I love Donald Sutherland.
Now, am I the only one who was getting a very strong "Arrested Development Reimagined As a Primetime Drama" vibe from this show? I mean, the woman playing the actress daughter could be Portia DeRossi's long-lost twin sister.
This one's staying on the DVR list. Now the debate...does it get its own tag? I guess I can always delete the tag later if necessary.
